my computer crashed, and i just got back online... it's been almost two weeks.
the last thing i was typing was a response to a post where i had mistakenly said that an asian lady i was engaged to was 25 years my junior... what i meant to type was that she was 25 years old.
so for the record, i have never been with a 15 year old; not yet anyway.... imagine how i felt when my computer crashed an i wasn't able to correct that record for two weeks.... oops!
he is the perfect replacement!
absolutely no compassion - and manhood less than 1 inch!

I think he has forgotten how much support he got when he first posted about his wife running off with an elder and her wanting a divorce.
Didn't know if you know this already, but it turned out that he was pulling a long, drawn out April Fool's joke with that thread.
So, he didn't forget that he got support, he was playing on that very support system when he made his "crowbar to the face of an elder" thread.
That he could have pushed core88, a suicidal person (genuine, from what information we have), closer to the edge makes me want to do things to micromoose that would get me banned from here if I voiced them.
The board couldn't have know for certain if core was actually serious about suicide. That isn't the point though. People here followed through and tried to help core. That was cool.

i dont want a complicated version; just a very simple explanation on the theory of evolution, and if possible, in your own words.
many of us are very ignorant on this subject and it seems that a few here are very knowledgeable so i hope you can help me and others also.. also if you believe in the theory of common descent, could you explain that to me also?
I always wondered why I was drawn to bannanas and acorn hoarding. Now I know.

If I can just jump in here for a minute. It is INCREDIBLY unlikely for the remains of an animal to become fossilized. The conditions have to be just right. Yet, it does happen, and there are enough fossils that have been found to see the process of evolution. EVERY fossil is a transitional species.
I'm glad you posted that. That is getting at what I was trying to say in my last post.

Hi Warlock
In my last post, I was trying to explain this very thing you just commented on. You can't see the "transitional" species because you are looking in the wrong place, for lack of a better term. There is no "transitional" species as you are imagining. We are all just one very long chain of genetics that sometimes branches off into directions that we, have decided counts as different species. Since humans only live for a short time and not millions of years, our ancestors that were genetically different enough from us to not be counted as being of the same species are not alive today with us for us to talk to. But, if you were living back tens of thousands of years ago, you could have had a face to face conversation with a neaderthal, which branched off from the species that we either branched off of or became (depending on your perspective). That there are not 2 or more inteligent species that look "humanish" today, simply means that the other genetic lines were not successful and died out, leaving only us.
edit to say:
In other words, species don't "pop" into existence from one species to the next. Gack...I completely lost my train of thought. Dang it!
On a side note, I am immensly frustrated at the moment by my lack of ability to properly express what I am trying to say. All this information is up in my brain and I can't get it into words the way I want to. Sigh...

Dave,
I appriciate your illustration, but both the best and worst sighted birds remain birds throughout this whole process. I don't see them evolving into anything other than birds, they just adapt to the environment.
Warlock
Birds are only called "birds" because humans have chosen a completely arbitrary point in the genetic make-up of living things and named them "birds". The natural world doesn't care about our definitions though. If we so chose, we could vastly simplify things and divide lifeforms into only two categories: feathers or no feathers (or whatever - just an example). Or we could make things vastly more difficult and classify life into a trillion different categories. Under that system, the brown haired, brown eyed, 5ft tall people of the world would think of themselves as a different life form than the blond haired, blue eyed, 6 ft tall people (again, just an illustration here).
And please, if one of the more articulate (than myself, 'cause I'm not) evolution posters could restate the concept that I just tried to put accross, but in better terms, do so because it is one of the basic misconceptions that creationists have.
no firestorms please.
but be honest.
do you think that we are of a lower level of intelligence than those who accept evolutionist' theories?.
Re: So non-creationist - what do you think of those who still accept creation?
I simply think that they haven't yet had the opportunity or desire to research evolution properly and so they misunderstand what the theory of evolution really is and I don't think less of them for it. It is their choice. I once was a creationist. We all have to decide how we will spend our time. Some of us devote a little time to scientific things. Others devote enormous amounts of time to scientific study.
I didn't understand the basics of evolution at one point in time. I didn't then think that it was true. But the more that I researched, the more that I saw how I had previously misunderstood evolution. The misunderstanding of the theory (specifically “selection” as used in discussing evolution) is what I think is the key to the whole problem. I certainly can't hold a candle to AlanF or Kid-A (to use those two as examples) when it comes to debating the subject or simply raw knowledge of evolution. But I did enough research, given the time that I wanted to devote to it, to satisfy myself that evolution is the correct view of things.
When all is said and done, Jeff, I like you and hope I get to meet you one day. Your contributions to the board, insights, and experiences are valuable to me – creationist that you are.
I won't let a little thing like “how did we get here?” stand in the way.
LDB
i am thinking of disassociating myself within the next two weeks.
aarrghhh!!!.
did you have a shortlist of people to day goodbye to?.
(On a side note, she subsequently got counseled by the elders for coming over to our house to talk to LDB "alone" while I, the wife, wasn't home. Give me a break! LDB is in his mid-30's and this woman is in her late 60's! What did the elders think was going to go on in my absence? Talk about control freaks!)They have some Sick minds!
Probably wouldn't have been as bad as it was for her if she hadn't brought out a 6 pack of beer as a thank you for work/training I had done for her. She wanted to talk business for awhile, so we shared a couple could ones. They wouldn't have found that out except that right after she pulled out of the driveway, pole-up-his-ass-and-loves-jehoober's-kingdumb elder dropped by. I still had the beer in my hand when I answered the door and it all went downhill from there. I always respected that sister. She was one of the good ones in the bunch.
no firestorms please.

(brief topic hijack to follow)
Hey Sad Emo,
To help yourself understand, do this mental exercise...I have found it to be liberating in trying to break away from forced physical conventions that I didn't even think about for most of my life.
First, picture the Earth hanging in space. Imagine it just like you always see it in pictures. Mostly in the U.S., it is presented to us from the perspective of North America in the upper left, and Africa in the lower right.
Now, expand your view point straight out from the Earth's equater to include the other bodies in our solar system as they are usually presented to us. In most pictures, the Sun is on the farthest left, then Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, and so on. Pull the image back farther in your mind until you can see the Sun and all of the planets. The reason that your initial mental picture will be similar to mine and to most people in the U.S. is simply because that is how we are taught to view the solar system. Even the putting the Sun on the left and the planets on the right is the way it is usually done. But why? As was mentioned, just because it has been done that way...convention. It is all from your chosen reference point though. Since there is no "up" or "down", or even "right" or "left" in space, we can have some fun with this exercise....
As I said, picture our entire solar system as you usually would (with the Sun on the left and the planets going off to the right). Close your eyes if it will help. Now, with Earth as the axis, slowly rotate the picture in your mind until the 4th-9th planets are on the left (upside down from "normal") and the Sun is on the right. At first, you will constantly have to keep forcing your mind to view the Earth "upside down". The Earth looks weird "upside down" doesn't it? But it isn't really upside down, it is just that your perspective has changed.
Now try rotating your mental picture around until you can zoom in and out of any point and fly to anywhere you want.
You'll never look at a globe the same way again.
I suppose that if people from the southern hemisphere had been the primary colonizers in the last few hundred years instead of the Europeans, our globes would have Australia "up" instead of "down".
